Field Hard banding:

Portable equipment is used to apply field welded bands on worn outside diameter surfaces.

The two most common type of bands are Tungsten Carbide composite and smooth alloy bands. Special non magnetic bands are applied non magnetic equipment.

The tungsen carbide bands are rapidly falling out of favor because of casing and riser wear. Also there is a need to reduce friction in directional drilling.

Smooth bands are replacing WC deposits in many applications by using high alloy wires. The alloy combinations result in depoists with complex microstructures that exhibit very high wear life and reduce casing damage.
